Synopsis :
It is the day their new life is supposed to begin. Nick (29) and Celia (27) want to take off for the US. Where Nick’s is from. And where Nick’s friend is already waiting to greet them. Their new life is a dream they share. Their relationship is still young, but both of them are hauling personal baggage that they want to leave behind. For Celia, it is the trauma of a miscarriage. She lost her child – which was not Nick’s – in an accident. For Nick, it is his sometimes shady business dealings, which he has given up for Celia’s sake.

The morning they are due to leave, the screws are put on Nick. His former business associates don’t plan to let him fly away just like that. They are of the opinion that Nick owes them. And when, as a consequence, they threaten Celia, Nick doesn’t no what to do anymore. In an unobserved moment, he reaches into the open cash register at a little store. But the improvised cash snatch ends in disaster – a policeman who happens by is seriously injured. Nick panics, thinking that he will be falsely blamed for the officer’s wounds. The couple’s trip turns into a getaway. When their car gives up the ghost, they are left with no other choice but to hide in a nearby villa. But this does not go unnoticed by the police. An SEK unit is quickly on the scene, led by the level-headed Inspector Kramer whose focus in the situation is de-escalation. But for Nick, giving up is out of the question. With all their strength, he and Celia want to hold fast to their dream of a new beginning. Nick feels pushed into a corner by the police and declares the owner of the villa, VICTOR (48), who they have found inside and tied up, to be a hostage. Nick’s conditions: a car and safe passage.

It quickly turns out that Victor is not alone in the house. On the upper floor, they find NADINE, his 15 year old daughter who, hysterical with fear, has hidden herself. With a great deal of empathy, Celia manages to calm the teenager. But when she sees her father, she completely falls apart. Because Victor harbors a black-to-the-bone secret. He is not who he claims to be. In the dining room, three dead bodies sit at table. Father, mother and son. Murdered and arranged in a macabre gathering. By Victor. The assumed father is revealed as a serial killer, driven by the obsession to “harmonize“ squabbling families. Peace and harmony, for Victor, have become a sick mania. As an employee of a security firm, he fulfills his mission with families he is otherwise responsible for protecting – with deadly results. To complete his masterpiece, he only needs one final piece of the puzzle: Nadine.

What condemns Nick and Celia to negotiating incompetence also stretches the patience of the police to breaking point. Among the SEK, Kramer is replaced by Chief Detective Inspector ROTH from the LKA. On the surface, it is because of the political significance of the hostage. But in reality, personal motives drive Roth. The officer injured in the little store is his son. And when he dies in hospital, Roth approves the storming of the villa. But, for the SEK, this move quickly turns to disaster. Two policemen die after freeing Victor. Neither does Kramer survive his confrontation with the killer, who manages to remain completely invisible. The SEK has no idea of his existence. The young SEK team leader, FISCHER — Kramer’s right-hand man — is promoted to second-in-charge of the SEK team.

For Roth, the circumstances lead to no conclusion other than that Nick and Celia are brutal killers. The result: remorseless decisions on the edge of legal legitimacy. Shoot on sight and shoot to kill. For both hostage takers.

For Nick and Celia, there is no way out. Under one roof with a serial killer on the loose, they have to keep a girl out of his grasp — and at the same time are surrounded by the police, who have them marked for a bullet. Following the miserable failure of an attempt to break out of the house and Nick briefly falling into Victor’s hands, he sees only one way out. He can’t get to Celia and Nadine because of the police and Victor, and, driven by his own fears, Nick takes the feigned opportunity for escape offered by Roth.

For the first time in her life, Celia is left completely to her own devices. But there’s more: suddenly, she is responsible for another human being. And in the situation, she discovers unimagined strength. With no outside help, she confronts Victor and prevents Nadine from falling into his hands. The confrontation with the killer becomes, for Celia, a painful test of her strength. Still, she is able to resist her opponent. Until Victor falls victim to his own delusions.

When Nick penitently returns to her, everything has changed for Celia. The bond between them has been destroyed. She is, in fact, still able to stop the blinded Roth from exercising vigilante justice on her friend. But she has also recognized that for Nick and her there is no more future to share.

An insight that, next moment, becomes a terrible certainty. A scuffle develops when Roth tries to comfort the completely traumatized Nadine, and she manages to get hold of his gun. In panic, she fires. Nick, who is trying to get between Nadine and Roth, takes the bullet in his chest. He dies in Celia’s arms.

When Celia leaves the villa at the end of the worst nightmare of her life, she is still able to muster new hope. A new life waits for her. And a task. Because now there is someone she needs to take care of…
